Black Hills State University faculty and staff are transforming lives and making headlines.
Black Hills State University photography professor Steve Babbitt and recent BHSU graduate Randall Iverson are among many people in South Dakota who are eagerly awaiting the premier of a National Geographic Show, Untamed Americas, which includes footage and photographs from Custer State Park.
The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) at Black Hills State University, in collaboration with Regional Health, will host a 5K/10K Run & Walk Saturday, June 16 in Spearfish. The run/walk will begin at 8 a.m. at the BHSU Lyle Hare Stadium, continue on the Spearfish Bike Path, and finish at the BHSU Lyle Hare Stadium. The 10K will start at the BHSU Lyle Hare Stadium, continue on the Spearfish bike path to Spearfish Canyon and also finish at the Lyle Hare Stadium. Event day registration will be from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.
The Office of Academic Affairs at Black Hills State University has released the dean’s list for the spring 2012 semester. A total of 689 students maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or above while taking at least 12 credit hours to be named to the list this semester. Students are listed by hometown or current place of residence.
Black Hills State University will host the Gala Celebration of the Arts, Saturday, June 9, in the Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. The Gala is the opening event for the Johanna Meier Opera Theater Institute, a two-week program for advanced singers from across the United States. The program will be an enjoyable variety of short selections from the worlds of music, dance, and literature, as well as renowned Greek pianist Charis Dimaras.

Black Hills State University honored 13 graduates from the Class of 1962 during the 163rd commencement ceremony.
Black Hills State University graduates from the Class of 1962 recently gathered on campus to celebrate their induction into the 50-Year Club.
Black Hills State University senior, Lila Mehlhaff, was recently named to the prestigious list of Udall Scholars by the Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Foundation. Mehlhaff was the only South Dakota student to receive the award in 2012 and is the second BHSU student to ever receive the Udall scholarship.
The Dakota Amphibian and Reptile Network (DARN), an organization founded by Black Hills State University science professors, will host their fifth annual meeting in on the campus of BHSU Saturday, May 26.
Black Hills State University will host a pre-construction tent gathering Tuesday, May 22 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the future site of the BHSU Alumni/Foundation Welcome Center, which is located on St. Joe Street, south of Lyle Hare Stadium and Ida Henton Park on the BHSU campus.
