The Black Hills State University Veterans Center received a facelift and is planning a re-opening in September.

The on-campus student veteran facility, located in The Student Union, was recently remodeled thanks to a $75,000 Veteran Services Higher Education Grant from the South Dakota Governor’s Office.

Nearly 40 years ago, Dr. Mary Caton-Rosser spent time hiking Yellowstone’s backcountry lugging her zoom lens and snapping photos of awe-inspiring creatures – grizzly bears, eagles, hawks. Since then, those photos have taken on a variety of forms and are now part of a multimedia community exhibit titled “Trails to Tales: Seeking Sense of Place in Prints and Perspectives” that are now on exhibit throughout Belle Fourche.

All student produced media at Black Hills State University have recently been converged into a single site, www.BHSUBuzz.com. The site includes the Jacket Journal, the student newspaper; KBHU-FM, the student radio station; and KBHU-TV, the student television station.

Black Hills State University is making changes to accommodate the greatly increased use of laptop computers by students. A survey conducted as students moved into residence halls this fall revealed that nearly 90 percent of students brought a computer with them. That number is consistent with a national and regional trend in recent years.
