More than 20 Black Hills State University student-athletes from seven different sports and one head coach dipped into icy waters last weekend and raised more than $2,300 for Special Olympics South Dakota (SOSD).

2012 Legacy Family Award

The descendants of Lewis Levi and May (Bovell) Painter were honored as the 2012 Black Hills State University Legacy Family. The award was presented to Joe Painter, Class of ’82, and his wife, Cindy, Class of ’80, by BHSU President Kay Schallenkamp; Jhett Albers, athletic director; and Glen Lammers, rodeo coach, during halftime of a recent BHSU basketball game.

Black Hills State University is asking for nominations for induction in to the BHSU Rodeo Hall of Fame. Nominations to honor former BHSU stand-out competitors and supporters are currently being selected. Those eligible include: stand-out athletes with emphasis on national performers; significant contributors to the University’s rodeo program, and former BHSU rodeo coaches/advisors.

Six Black Hills State University rodeo team members recently qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) that will be held in Casper, Wyo., June 12-18.

The Black Hills State University women’s rodeo team captured the Great Plains Region Year End Championship Title at the final rodeo of the regular season in the Great Plains Region at the Blue Hawk Stampede, Dickinson, N.D. The men’s team concluded the season in third place in the region. Glen Lammers, BHSU Rodeo Coach, was also named Coach of the Year for the Great Plains Region.

More than 300 Black Hills State University students, faculty and staff, parents, and community members attended the recent BHSU Cowboys and Candlelight Dinner and Auction annual fundraiser for the BHSU Rodeo Team. The event raised nearly $14,000 from a live and silent auction and donations.
