After just five years on the professional strongman circuit, Brian Shaw, Class of 2004, is dominating the strongman world and building a successful business, creating training products, and booking appearances across the country. After going undefeated in every strongman competition he entered in 2011, Brian claimed the ultimate title of World’s Strongest Man in September.

The Black Hills State University Yellow Jacket Hall of Fame will induct five individuals and two teams during the annual Swarm Week festivities. Lisa (Reynolds) Bomengen, Craig Crosswait, and Neil Grandbouche will be inducted as athletes. Kevin Williams will be inducted as a coach, and Scott Graslie will be inducted as this year’s contributor. The 1980 men’s cross country team and the 1963-64 wrestling team will also be inducted.

Black Hills State University received a donation of $1 million from Dana and LaDawn Dykhouse and their children, Dan and Alana. This is the University’s first cash gift of $1 million, meaning BHSU students will see an immediate benefit from the gift.

The Black Hills State athletic department is hosting a forum for the public to discuss a potential move from the NAIA to NCAA Division II. The forum will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 10 in the Hall of Fame Room of the Donald E. Young Center and is open to everyone. There is no charge to attend the informational meeting.

The Black Hills State University athletic program was recently ranked 25th with 266.66 points in the final winter standings of the Learfield Sports Director’s Cup. Black Hills State was the highest-ranked school in the Dakota Athletic Conference.
