The Black Hills Singers will host a series of concerts in the region next week.  They will perform a variety of styles from German Baroque songs to traditional African American spirituals and contemporary settings of European folk songs. The concerts will feature choral music by Johann Michael Bach, Josef Rheinberger, Gerald Finzi, and several contemporary arrangers of folk songs and spirituals.

The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) at Black Hills State University, in collaboration with Regional Health, will present “Vitamin D, Vitamin B, What’s Best for Me – Vitamins and Supplements” as the topic of the next Healthy Bodies/Healthy Business seminar. The first presentation will take place Tuesday, May 29 from noon to 1 p.m. in Spearfish at the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center, room 206, on the BHSU campus. The Rapid City session will be Thursday, May 31 from noon to 1 p.m. in the lower level of the Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House, 224 Elk Street.

Black Hills State University has announced the schedule for the sixth season of Summer Stage. Productions this season include two comedies and a musical, which will be presented throughout the month of July.

The Black Hills State University Chamber Singers and Jazz Ensemble will leave for a two-state, four-day summer tour following the graduation ceremony Saturday.  The performance tour includes stops at regional high schools and a performance at the new Main Street Square in Rapid City.

Black Hills State University student Devin Lynn recently attended the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU) Conference in Washington, D.C., as he begins a project using social media to connect entrepreneurs in Uganda with entrepreneurs in South Dakota.   Lynn is currently in the process of planning a trip to Uganda to carry out his project.

James Knutson, professor of art at Black Hills State University, received a surprise announcement during class from BHSU President Kay Schallenkamp and Dr. Rod Custer, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs, honoring him with the 2012 Distinguished Faculty Award. Kent MeyersKent Meyers, associate professor of humanities at BHSU, has been invited to Vincennes, France, in September to present his novel Twisted Tree at the major literary expo Festival America. Meyers is one of only 70 authors from North and South America to receive an invitation to present at the four-day celebration of American writing.
