The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) at Black Hills State University, in collaboration with Regional Health, will feature running legend, inspirational speaker, and international best-selling author, Dick Beardsley, as part of the “Healthy Bodies Healthy Business” eight-week wellness series. The first presentation will take place Tuesday, April 24 from noon to 1 p.m. in Spearfish at the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center, room #206 on the BHSU campus. The second session will be held Thursday, April 26 from noon to 1 p.m. in the lower level of the Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House, 224 Elk St.

Belle Fourche native, Dr. Cari Lee Skogberg Eastman, will present “Disorder on the Border”  in two identical presentations at Black Hills State University Friday, March 23 at 1 p.m. in the David B. Miller Student Union Jacket Legacy Room, and again at 7 p.m. in Meier Recital Hall.

Elaine and Joe Floyd

Black Hills State University alumnae and former employee, Elaine Floyd, and her husband, Joe, recently announced a $1 million pledge to endow the Elaine and Joe Floyd Scholarship at BHSU. The couple announced their scholarship endowment at the University’s annual 1883 Donor Recognition Dinner.

Keegan receives national teaching award.

Black Hills State University graduate Nicole (Fellows) Keegan, Class of ’05, received a surprise visit from BHSU’s Yellow Jacket mascot, Sting, and Tom Wheaton, director of Alumni Relations at BHSU. Keegan, who teaches seventh-grade science and social studies at Dakota Middle School in Rapid City, received the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award for excellence in teaching.

Black Hills State University theatre students recently attended the Regional Kennedy Center-American College Theatre Festival in Ames, Iowa, where the BHSU production of “Almost, Maine” was awarded a certificate of merit to the entire cast for excellence in ensemble acting.

The E.Y. Berry Library-Learning Center at Black Hills State University will have an open house Friday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. The open house will highlight recent renovations and allow the community to learn about new advances in library technology, equipment, and collections.

Dr. Symeon Waseen, assistant professor of music at Black Hills State University, has been chosen as the winner of the South Dakota Music Teacher’s Association (SDMTA) 2012 Composer Commissioning Project. His new composition will be premiered at the 2012 SDMTA annual conference which will be held in Spearfish.

After just five years on the professional strongman circuit, Brian Shaw, Class of 2004, is dominating the strongman world and building a successful business, creating training products, and booking appearances across the country. After going undefeated in every strongman competition he entered in 2011, Brian claimed the ultimate title of World’s Strongest Man in September.
