The Office of Academic Affairs at Black Hills State University has released the dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester.  A total of 737 students maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or above while taking at least 12 credit hours to be named to the list this semester. Students are listed by hometown or current place of residence.

Matt Schofield first met Jimmy Crammer in the late ‘60s during an English class at Black Hills State University. Crammer was a South Dakota farm boy who was drafted, sent to fight in the war in Vietnam, and comes back forever scarred. Crammer is also a fictional character and the subject of Schofield’s two published books.

In his most recent art exhibit, Black Hills State University assistant professor Dustin Hinson combines the unique topographies of the Earth’s surface with random lines, shapes and contours to create abstract pieces that provide some sense of reality.

Black Hills State University is encouraging students to spend their weekends on campus by offering many enjoyable activities and opportunities. Along with the usual variety of campus happenings, once a month during the spring semester, BHSU will provide students with a unique weekend filled with entertainment, giving them more reasons to stay on campus and take full advantage of their university experience.

Black Hills State University’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) recently received two grants from local organizations. One grant was from the Greater Belle Fourche Area Community Foundation for $500, and the other grant was from the Spearfish Area Foundation for $750.

Longtime Black Hills State University coach and athlete Dale Hardy, 88, died on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at the South Dakota Veteran’s Home in Hot Springs, leaving behind a successful career in athletics which spanned nearly six decades.

When Black Hills State University alumnus John Johnson received the call that he would be one of the 2012 honorees for the Starkey Hearing Foundation,he wondered how a small town boy from South Dakota could receive a honor shared by former President Bill Clinton, Muhammad Ali, Sir Elton John, Willie Mays and Billie Jean King.

But Johnson soon realized that while he joined a long listof high profile celebrities they all had the same goal: making the world abetter place.

Black Hills State University instructor Erica Merchant is sharing layers of her life through a new mixed media exhibit at the Ruddell Gallery located in the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union.

The exhibit, which began last week and runs through Feb. 6, features several wall pieces exposing concepts of geological time and fossilized moments that are discard or overlooked.

Registration is now open for the spring session of the South Dakota Stock Market (SDSMG) game. The educational activity, which is coordinated by Black Hills State University, included more than 1,000 students from 46 schools throughout the state last year.
