The South Dakota District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced today the Black Hills State University Foundation in Spearfish has been awarded a $750,000 grant to establish the South Dakota Women’s Business Center. The funding, which comes from the SBA, is provided to economic development organizations who directly assist entrepreneurs in South Dakota with special emphasis on women.

The Excellence in Education Award was presented to Kathy Christensen; the Distinguished Alumnus Award presented to Dr. Michael (Mick) Dana; the Special Achievement Award was given to Carol Gee; and Howard Owens received the Special Service Award.

Community events including Homecoming week highlights include a Kiddie Carnival Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. on the campus green; Coronation and Homecoming Dance Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Jacket Legacy Room; Alumni Awards Luncheon Friday, Sept. 18 at 11:30 a.m. in the Student Union Jacket Legacy Room; and Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet Friday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. in the Student Union Jacket Legacy Room. BHSU is also hosting reunions for KBHU-FM and volleyball during this year’s Swarm Week.

Black Hills State University professor of business, Don Altmyer, recently won the 2009 Professional Disc Golf Advanced Senior Men Putting Event and the Advanced Senior Men Mini Golf Event at the Disc Golf World Championships held in Kansas City, Kan.
