Area schools are gearing up for CAR WARS, an electronics competition that is held annually in the Black Hills area, which requires the participants to first build a remote-controlled model car, and then race it. The competition will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, April 23 in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Rushmore Hall Room 104 in Rapid City.

BHSU will host the “Spring Final Fling” disc golf tournament Thursday, April 26 at 3:30 p.m. for BHSU students and 5:30 p.m. for the community. Competitors are asked to meet at Hole One of the BHSU disc golf course 15 minutes prior to the start of their division’s tournament.

More than 50 school district representatives from 10 different states will be at the Black Hills Teacher Fair, April 20, 2007 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Donald E. Young Center gym on the Black Hills State University campus.

conductors_0412_thumb.jpgThe BHSU Concert Band and Percussion Ensemble will present their annual spring concert Monday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the recital hall in Clare and Josef Meier Hall. Conducting duties will be shared by Christopher Hahn, BHSU music instructor and director of the groups, and four students from the advanced conducting class.

The American Indian Health Research Program (AIHRP) at Black Hills State University will host an official naming ceremony Friday, April 20 at 2 p.m. at 1246 St. Joe Street in Spearfish. The AIHRP, which has been been informally known as the St. Joe House, will be officially named Wicozani Tipi, which means Health House in Lakota.

Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union on the BHSU campus, April 3 - April 22. The exhibition includes more than 50 photographs from former photography students representing more than two decades of innovative photography at BHSU.

The Black Hills State University Center for American Indian Studies (CAIS) has been awarded a South Dakota Humanities Council Grant for $3,250 to fund a symposium titled “The RED, in the Red, White and Blue: Indians in the Armed Forces.” The symposium will be held in conjunction with the university’s annual Indian Awareness Week, April 16-22.
