Black Hills State University will offer two great opportunities to hear lectures on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
Black Hills State University students and the Spearfish community displayed their homecoming spirit during the recent Swarm Days parade. The parade, with the theme “Buzzin’ on the Beach,” included more than 100 entries.
Under sunny skies and a prevailing wind, 28 disc golfers participated in the 14th annual Swarm Days Disc Golf tournament at the Black Hills State University campus disc golf course on Oct. 1.
Serving as parade marshal for the Swarm Day 2010 parade is Alyce Schavone, a fun-loving, jeep driving, community volunteering, ever learning fan of Black Hills State University who has been a part of the campus and the Spearfish community for more than five decades.
The Spearfish Area Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee will host a District 31 Candidate Forum on Tuesday, October 5th at 6PM. The Forum will be held on campus of Black Hills State University in the Jacket Legacy Room located on the second floor of the Student Union. House candidates Chuck Turbiville, Fred Romkema and Kevin O'Dea; along with Senate candidates Nyla Griffith and Tom Nelson will be in attendance.
High school students and community members are invited to attend the Fourth Annual Art Fair at Black Hills State University. The Art Fair will be held Thursday, Oct. 14 and Friday, Oct. 15 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the David B. Miller Student Union Jacket Legacy Room.
The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) and Black Hills State University will host the fall 2010 Women in Business Conference, “From High Heels to High Places,” Saturday, Oct. 23 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Dr. Alexander J. Hahn, professor of mathematics, director of the Honors Program for the College of Science and director of the Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning at the University of Notre Dame, will deliver a lecture entitled “Truth in Numbers: From Notre Dame Football to The DaVinci Code” Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Jonas Hall 104 on the Black Hills State University campus.
Black Hills State University will host the South Dakota Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Showcase Monday, Oct. 4 from 12-12:50 p.m. in the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union Jacket Legacy Room and 6-6:50 p.m. in Rapid City on the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology campus in the Mineral Industries Building–Room 320.
The National Science Board will hold its Fall 2010 Meeting on the Black Hills State University campus Friday, Sept. 24 from 8 a.m. until noon in the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union, Jacket Legacy Room. Seating is limited. To reserve seating call 642-6111.
Black Hills State University students Hillary Wittenhagen, senior communication arts and mass communications major, and Jenna Nagel, senior mass communications major, have their photography exhibit “Capturing Culture” on display in Clare and Josef Meier Hall on the BHSU campus.
Reese Erlich, foreign correspondent, best-selling book author and freelance journalist, will present “Conversations with Terrorists -- foreign correspondent Reese Erlich's update from the Middle East" at Black Hills State University on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 3:30 p.m. in Jonas Hall 305.
Black Hills State University’s annual Swarm Days will kick off Monday, Sept. 27 and run through Sunday, Oct. 3. Highlights of the week include community events such as, the Kiddie Carnival Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m.; Coronation Thursday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.; Alumni Awards Luncheon Friday, Oct. 1 at noon; Hall of Fame Banquet Friday, Oct. 1 at 5:30 p.m.; and disc golf tournament, Friday, Oct. 1 that begins at 3 p.m. for students and 5 p.m. for community members.
Black Hills State University will honor several alumni during Swarm Week at the annual Alumni Awards Luncheon. Marla (Hershey) Barnard will be honored with the Special Achievement Award; the Distinguished Alumnus Award will be presented to Dr. Forrest Brady; the Excellence in Education Award will be given to Dr. Tim Creal; and Ron Schuttler will be honored with the Special Service Award.
The Black Hills State University Yellow Jacket Hall of Fame will induct five individuals and two teams during the annual Swarm Week festivities. Lisa (Reynolds) Bomengen, Craig Crosswait, and Neil Grandbouche will be inducted as athletes. Kevin Williams will be inducted as a coach, and Scott Graslie will be inducted as this year’s contributor. The 1980 men’s cross country team and the 1963-64 wrestling team will also be inducted.
