Black Hills State University is hosting the 19th Annual Gold Dust Yellow Jacket Golf Tournament Saturday, June 27 at the Spearfish Canyon Country Club in Spearfish. Proceeds from the golf tournament will be used for scholarships for student-athletes at Black Hills State University.

Travis CoveyTravis Covey has been named head coach of the track and field program at BHSU. Covey, who served as assistant track and field coach this year, takes over for Scott Walkinshaw who recently stepped down as head coach of track and field but will continue to serve as head coach of the cross country program.

The Black Hills State University Rodeo Club will host the second annual Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede Rodeo Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m. The Cowboys and Candlelight Dinner and Auction will be held Saturday evening at 6 p.m. at the Spearfish Holiday Inn.

The Black Hills State women’s team placed first for the fourth consecutive season at the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) championship on February 22, 2009. The men’s team placed second for the third consecutive year.

The Black Hills State University volleyball team has earned a spot in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championship Tournament. This year’s team has had an exceptional season winning the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) and reaching the national championship tournament for the first time. On December 2-6 the tournament moves to Sioux City, Iowa, where the champion will be decided.
