The spring session of the South Dakota Stock Market Game (SDSMG), sponsored in part by Black Hills State University, concluded its 10-week trading session recently. More than 480 students from 21 South Dakota schools formed 226 teams of stock market investors and received a hypothetical $100,000 to perform online investing in real-time stocks, bonds and mutual funds.

Black Hills State University accounting students are volunteering their time to assist students, elderly, low-income individuals, and veterans with tax preparation and filing as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Students in instructor Robin Meyerink’s Advanced Income Tax class had to pass three levels of certification in order to volunteer for the program. So far the students have filed nearly 150 tax returns.
