Black Hills State University will hold a rock climbing and hiking event at Sylvan Lake Sunday, Oct. 5. The rock climbing is open to all students; however, the hiking is open to students, staff, and faculty.

The BHSU Speech and Debate Team will host Debate Watch 2008, a series of events to bring people together to watch and then discuss the upcoming presidential and vice presidential debates. The first presidential debate of the election year will be shown Friday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. in the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union Marketplace.

BHSU faculty and friends perform early 1900s concertBHSU will be the venue for an early 1900s acoustic experience Sunday, Sept. 28 at 2:30 p.m. in Meier Recital Hall. A special program of American music from a century ago, most from authentic sheet music recovered from the historic Adams House Museum in Deadwood, will be performed by BHSU faculty and friends.

BHSU will host “You Really Can Have What You Want,” a financial presentation by Terry Mills, from Consumer Credit Counseling in Rapid City, Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. in Jonas Hall Room 304. The presentation is the first in a series of financial seminars sponsored by the BHSU Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) in conjunction with Highmark Federal Credit Union.

This year, as a part of the annual Swarm Week celebration, BHSU will host several special events to “honor the past and celebrate the future” as the University commemorates its Quasquicentennial (125th anniversary). Swarm Week begins Monday, Sept. 15 and concludes Saturday, Sept. 20 with special performances by BHSU alumni Kory and the Fireflies, Williams and Ree, and Brock Finn in addition to the annual parade and football game.

Annabelle Gurwitch, host of a national reality show that encourages green living, will speak at Black Hills State University Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in Meier Recital hall. Her presentation is open to the public at no charge. This is the first of several presentations dealing with sustainability that will be sponsored by the Madeline Young Speaker Series at BHSU.
