Black Hills State University faculty, staff and students will be swinging, jiving and tapping their feet as they battle it out for the coveted BHSU mirror ball trophy while at the same time raising money for local ranchers. The Dancing with the Staff, a spoof of ABC’s popular “Dancing with the Stars” show, takes place Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Jacket Legacy Room of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union.

A Black Hills State University geology class received a new perspective on the area’s geological formations when they spent a day in December touring the 300 level of the Sanford Underground Research Facility, the former Homestake Mine. Dr. Abigail Domagall’s students were the first from BHSU to have an opportunity to go underground.

Black Hills State University student Aaron Morlock, his wife Sara, also a BHSU student, and their four-year-old daughter Arabella lost everything in a house fire during October’s Winter Storm Atlas. In the last few months, Aaron, Sara, and Arabella, with the help of several communities and BHSU, have been putting their life back together while remaining dedicated to their studies.

Black Hills State University will recognize 229 candidates for graduation during the University’s 166th commencement ceremony Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. in the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center. Degrees for the fall 2013 BHSU graduates include nine masters, 196 bachelors, and 24 associates.

Clausen, a biology and Spanish major from Sturgis, applied for the University study abroad program as a way to expand her skills and immerse herself in the Spanish culture.
