A photograph taken by Black Hills State University student Bryce Boser, mass communication major from Box Elder, won the national GoPro’s Picture of the Day contest recently.
GoPro, a company that develops high-definition cameras, featured the image on its Instagram site, www.Instagram.com/GoPro on Oct. 7.
BHSU-RC recently announced the addition of Advanced Project Management and Computer Networking certificate programs. Both programs are designed with a flexible format for working professionals and those looking for new career opportunities.
Black Hills State University recently selected Carol Lundberg to serve as the 2015 Swarm Days Parade Marshal, an honor acknowledging Lundberg’s support of the university and the Spearfish community she now calls home. The annual BHSU Swarm Days Parade begins at 10 a.m. Oct. 10 and will travel down Jackson Blvd. and Main Street in Spearfish.
Black Hills State University is ready to kick off its fall musical season. A variety of concerts with various genres of music are scheduled, and BHSU music directors say there is something for everyone.
This year’s BHSU community band has grown, according to Dr. David Berberick, assistant professor of music at BHSU. The group, comprised of both BHSU students and community members will perform exciting and challenging pieces during their fall concert, he said.
Black Hills State University is Boot Scootin’ to Victory with a variety of Swarm Days activities.
The 2015 BHSU homecoming week is Monday, Oct. 5 through Saturday, Oct. 10. This year’s theme is “Boot Scootin’ Victory” and highlights include pep rallies, Swarm Days Coronation, a parade and football and volleyball games.
Dr. Timothy Martinez, professor of political science at Black Hills State University, is addressing the new relationship with Cuba as well as the nation’s revolution and political change in the next Geek Speak lecture. Martinez will share the story of Cuban revolutionist Che Guevara and his ideas on society that not only sparked a Cuban revolution, but transformed him into a pop culture icon.
When Jeff and Helen Torrence moved their daughter across the state to start classes at Black Hills State University this fall, the family found a warm welcome awaiting them.
From the street signs welcoming them to Spearfish to the comradery and kindness at local restaurants and at Downtown Friday Nights and the campus/community fair, Jeff and Helen felt like they were being greeted by old friends.
The Black Hills State University Geek Speak lecture series is back for the third year, with the most interesting and controversial topics yet.
The Geek Speak series is held every Thursday at 4 p.m. in Jonas Hall, room 110 on the BHSU campus. The lectures are free and open to the public.
