Black Hills State University's annual Swarm Days homecoming celebration kicks off Monday, Sept. 30 and runs through Saturday, Oct. 5. A variety of events for the “Swarm Olympics” themed celebration will be held throughout the week including an Olympic Village Party, the hike to the H, a kiddie carnival, coronation, disc golf tournament, and the annual Swarm Days parade.

Black Hills State University enrollment is up 1.3 percent this fall with 4,464 students. A 17 percent increase was seen in the number of first-time freshmen enrolled, and housing on campus is at nearly 99 percent capacity.

When Nadine Fidler moved to Spearfish with her husband Ray in 1955, the two immediately immersed themselves in the happenings of the Northern Hills including those at Black Hills State University. Nadine will continue her contributions to BHSU as the Swarm Day Parade Grand Marshal.

Black Hills State University Yellow Jacket fans attending the Swarm day football match-up next week with Western State will get much more than a great game; they will also get the first view of the University’s new scoreboard/video board – the largest outdoor one in the state.

Earlier this year, Tracey Steinbach, Black Hills State University senior computer support specialist, asked her four daughters if they would run the all-women Leading Ladies Half-Marathon with her – something she had on her bucket list.  Once they said yes, Steinbach needed motivation to get her in marathon-finishing shape. She found that incentive from her husband, a friend and the possibility of winning $50,000.
