Twenty eight women were honored at the South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity’s fifth annual Women’s Business Conference as graduates from the Women’s Leadership Series: Focusing on the Future 2014. The SD CEO Women’s Business Center at Black Hills State University partnered with Goldcorp-Wharf Resources to present this five month educational series, which was launched in June.
Travel around the world without leaving Spearfish during the Black Hills State University International Festival in November. The annual event, which showcases BHSU international students’ home countries, is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1 in the Donald B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union on the BHUS campus.
Dr. James Hess, professor of psychology and chair of the School of Behavioral Sciences at Black Hills State University, recently pledged a $1 million gift to BHSU to establish the School of Behavioral Sciences Make a Difference Initiative.
Dr. Courtney Huse Wika, assistant professor of English, will explore the past and present-day celebrations of Halloween during Thursday’s Geek Speak Lecture at Black Hills State University. A costume contest will follow the lecture.
Joe Geyer traded the trails of the Black Hills for the concrete jungle this semester. Geyer, a Black Hills State University photography student from Rapid City, moved to New York City in September to complete a prestigious internship with Hearst Publishing.
Dr. Tim Steckline, Black Hills State University professor of speech, will offer his cultural and political critique of the products and ideology of the Walt Disney Corporation during this week’s Geek Speak lecture. The lecture titled “The Dark Mouse” will be held Thursday, Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. in room 110 of Jonas Hall on the BHSU campus.
Oretta Jastorff, the wife of the late Marvin (Marv) Jastorff, Class of ’59, donated $10,000 to establish the Marvin Jastorff Scholarship Fund to provide assistance to future generations of Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets.
The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) Women’s Business Center at Black Hills State University will host the monthly Women in Networking (WIN) lunch at the Spearfish Holiday Inn Swarm Room Thursday, Nov. 13 from noon to 1 p.m.
World renowned photographer and videographer Jake Norton will guide others in using their passion to make a positive difference in the world as a speaker in the Madeline A. Young Distinguished Speaker Series. Norton’s presentation is at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 in the Clare and Josef Meier Hall on the BHSU campus. The event is free and open to the public.
The first-ever Black Hills State University “Beeline” drumline will debut at the BHSU football game Saturday, Oct. 18. The Beeline will first appear at the tailgate at 11:30 a.m. in the Young Center Parking Lot followed by cheers and cadences throughout the 1 p.m. football game against Adams State.
