BHSU Music Department to host Lauren Pelon Musique Company

Black Hills State University will sponsor a special program by Lauren Pelon Musique Company Tuesday, Feb. 26.  The performance will take place in Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.

The program, titled "The Living Roots of Music," is comprised of music from the first century to today and features a multitude of instruments, including archlute, guitar, lute-guitar, lyre, recorders, and MIDI-pedalboard.  Her current program features music from ancient Greece, medieval and renaissance Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas.  Pelon also traces the story of music and tells stories about the development of instruments throughout history.

Pelon was the 2001 "Artist of the Year" Award recipient from Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council and has studied the history of music and instrumentation both in America and overseas. She has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and China.  Pelon has also performed as a soloist with symphony orchestras, on television specials and with Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion."

Pelon will also hold a special demonstration for college students.  A suggested donation of $5 for adults and $2 for children is requested for the evening performance to support music department scholarships.  For more information, contact Dr. Janeen Larsen, chair of the BHSU Fine and Applied Arts Department, at 642-6241 or JaneenLarsen@BHSU.edu.
