A group of Spearfish High School students who qualified for the national level of competition of We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution, recently visited the Black Hills State University campus to thank BHSU faculty members for their assistance in preparing for the competition. Through the years, professors in the department of history and social science at BHSU, including Dr. Ahrar Ahmad, Dr. Pam Carriveau, and Dr. Timothy Martinez, have helped students in Patrick Gainey’s class prepare for competition. Gainey, a history and government teacher at Spearfish High School, and who is a BHSU graduate, expressed his gratitude to the faculty who have helped his students. This is the fifth consecutive year that Gainey’s students have qualified for national competition. Pictured are BHSU President Kay Schallenkamp, Patrick Gainey, April Goodson, Anna Jastorff, Katherine Oldenkamp, Bridgette Decker, and Ryan Delzer.
