Ryerson’s paper, "Determining Market Segments of Tourism," analyzed tourist responses to a questionnaire. Based upon events attended, accommodations used, spending patterns and other variables, the questionnaire demonstrated how tourists can be categorized into various market segments. Ryerson also presented examples of how this information can help a community select the most effective marketing techniques to be used to attract different types of tourists to a destination location.
