Jesse Brown Nelson, mass communications student from Rapid City, will be exhibiting photographs in the second floor student lounge gallery of Clare and Josef Meier Hall on the Black Hills State University campus through Feb. 1, 2008.

A reception for the artist is scheduled Wednesday, Nov 14 from 4-6 p.m. in Meier Hall second floor lobby.  Meier Hall is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The exhibition includes photographs Nelson took as a part of a recent summer internship with the South Dakota Department of Tourism and State Department. The photography internship is a highly coveted position for student photographers from across the state and region. During the four-month internship Nelson took more than 10,000 photographs throughout the state of South Dakota.
Steve Babbitt, BHSU photography professor, noted that Chad Coppess, director of photography for the South Dakota Department of Tourism who supervised Nelson’s internship, will be on campus for the opening reception. Coppess, a 1985 graduate of BHSU, has been with the Department of Tourism since 1993.

Coppess praised Nelson’s work during the internship and added that he was the best intern he’s worked with in all of the years he’s supervised interns. Coppess will speak to several BHSU photography classes during his visit to campus.
