English Club Film Series announces final three films of fall semester

The Black Hills State University English Club has announced the final three films in their Fall 2007 Film Series.

The 2006 R-rated, Spanish-language film Pan’s Labyrinth will show Tuesday, Oct. 30, and is an adult fairy tale about the transitions and dangers of a young girl named Ofelia, who stumbles on the decayed labyrinth guarded by the mystical beast Pan.

Another foreign language film, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964), a French romance, explores the weight of time and distance on romance. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 13 and is not rated because it pre-dates the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) ratings. The final film, scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 11, is the 2006 R-rated Notes on a Scandal. In the film Cate Blanchett stars as a teacher who is caught by a fellow teacher (Judy Dench) in an illicit relationship with a student.

All films, which are free and open to the public, show at 7:30 p.m. in Jonas Hall Room 305. For more information, contact Christopher Weiss at ChristopherDWeiss@st.bhsu.edu.
