BHSU hosts "Science Seminar Series"

Black Hills State University will host Dr. Craig Benkman from the University of Wyoming for the Nov. 2 lecture of the Science Seminar Series at 4 p.m. in Jonas Hall, room 305. Benkman will present “Coevolution and Specialization in the Adaptive Radiation of Crossbills.”

Throughout the fall 2007 semester, the BHSU Science Seminar Series, which is open to the public at no cost, features lectures/presentations given by guest researchers or BHSU resident researchers/professors. The series is sponsored by the Science Department and the South Dakota – IdeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (SD-INBRE).

The objective of the lecture series is to introduce BHSU undergraduate and graduate students to cutting edge scientific research. The majority of the lectures are biologically or biomedically oriented; however, the series also integrates a diverse array of scientific pursuits, such as, chemistry, geology, and psychology.

The final lecture for this semester is Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. in Jonas Hall, room 305. Dr. Allan Ashworth from North Dakota State University will present “The Extinction of the Antarctic Tundra Biome”

For information on the series contact Garth Spellman, research faculty for CCBR and Westcore in residence at BHSU, at GarthSpellman@BHSU.edu or call 642-6854.
