Black Hills State University will celebrate the success and end its “Building on Strength and Stature” capital campaign during an event Tuesday, June 17 from 4-5:30 p.m. outside Clare and Josef Meier Hall. In case of inclement weather the celebration will be moved inside Meier Hall.
The “Building on Strength and Stature” began in 2008 with a goal of $22 million. More than half of that money is dedicated to additional student scholarships. The campaign also provides funds for the construction and renovation of campus facilities including construction of the Alumni Foundation Welcome Center and upgrades to athletic facilities.
“What has been most gratifying as we met with alumni and community members is their love for Black Hills State University, their commitment to this University, and their willingness to invest in our students and our facilities,” said BHSU President Kay Schallenkamp. “Please join as we celebrate their generosity and dedication to the University.”
BHSU kicked off the final push toward its $22 million goal last October. This was the University’s most ambitious campaign in our history, according to Steve Meeker, vice president of University Advancement. The only previous capital campaign was in 1990 for the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center. The goal for that campaign was $1 million.
The celebration will include refreshments and live music by the Green Dolphin Jazz Trio. The public is invited to attend and complimentary food and beverages will be served.
