BHSU officials don hats to show support for reading day

In recognition and support of Read Across America Day commemorating Dr. Seuss’s birthday, Black Hills State University officials don “Cat in a Hat” headgear while visiting the state Capitol on Monday. Tom Wheaton, Class of ’87 and director of alumni, Sandy Arseneault, Class of ‘84 who is serving as president of South Dakota Education Association, Steve Meeker, Class of ‘84 and vice president for University Advancement, and BHSU President Kay Schallenkamp, noted the importance of motivating children and teens to read and discussed their favorite Dr. Seuss books. Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually sponsored by Random House and the National Education Association (NEA). An estimated 45 million students, parents, and educators celebrated Read Across America this year.
