The local jazz quartet Green Dolphin will perform during a Black Hills State University Friends of Music fundraising event at Roma’s Ristorante in Spearfish Thursday, Jan. 16. Members include, from left to right, Gary Renner, Dr. Janeen Larsen, Diana Lloyd, and Dr. Christopher Hahn.

The local jazz quartet Green Dolphin, featuring two Black Hills State University music professors, will perform during a BHSU Friends of Music fundraising event at Roma’s Ristorante in Spearfish Thursday, Jan. 16.

In addition to the featured entertainment, a wine and cheese tasting will be held from 5-7 p.m. and will include a wide array of special cheeses and a variety of wines. All profits will go to a BHSU Friends of Music jazz scholarship.

The name Green Dolphin is taken from the 1947 popular song “On Green Dolphin Street” recorded by Miles Davis in 1958. Members of the local jazz quartet include: Dr. Christopher Hahn, BHSU professor of music, on trumpet; Diana Lloyd on vocals; Dr. Janeen Larsen, BHSU emeritus professor of music, on piano; and Gary Renner on bass guitar. The quartet plays traditional jazz standards regularly on Thursdays at Roma’s.

The Friends of Music was established in 2003 to assist with fundraising for music department scholarships at BHSU and to help increase visibility of the department.

Tickets for the Jan. 16 fundraiser are $20 per person and are available at Roma’s Ristorante, 2281 E. Colorado Blvd., Spearfish, or by calling the BHSU University Advancement Office at 605-642-6385.
