Faculty recital rescheduled for Thursday, Nov. 14

The faculty recital of Dr. Johnathan Nero, originally scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 17, has been rescheduled for Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall.

Dr. Jonathan Nero, associate professor of music at Black Hills State University, and Dr. Symeon Waseen, assistant professor of music at BHSU, will be performing two works by British composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams; Five Mystical Songs and Songs of Travel. The Five Mystical Songs, for Baritone, Piano, and Chorus are settings of sacred poetry by the 17th-Century poet, George Herbert.

The BHSU Chamber Singers will perform the choral parts in this work. Songs of Travel is one of Vaughan Williams’ most famous works for voice and piano. This cycle is made up of nine settings selected from Robert Louis Stevenson’s set of poems by the same name. The cycle includes some of Vaughan Williams’ most recognizable songs including, The Vagabond, the Roadside Fire, and Bright is the Ring of Words.
