Jane Klug, Black Hills State University director of student services, returned to St. Cloud State University (SCSU) to give the keynote address for the 25th
Annual Excellence in Leadership banquet.
Klug, who graduated from St. Cloud in 1989 with a bachelor’s in speech communications and recreation, received the Excellence in Leadership award for students that year.
During her internship with the University Organizations Office at the Minnesota university, Klug helped plan the first leadership banquet and was one of the first recipients of the award. She returned to honor the 2013 student leaders as well as all the student leaders throughout the 25 years.
In her speech, Klug spoke of how she uses what she learned at St. Cloud in her current position at BHSU. “Just as St. Cloud State University has a tag line of Education for Life in South Dakota, our tag line is Transforming Lives,” she said. “I realized in my day to day practices in higher education, I have found that both of these tag lines are essential. You see, SCSU provided me the education, opportunities, experiences and mentors I needed. They transformed my life, and now, that is what I do every day at BHSU.”
Klug has worked at BHSU for more than 20 years. In addition to her role as director of student services, Klug is an officer in the Northern Hills Rotary Club, a leader in her church and a volunteer for various city functions, including the 125th Spearfish Citywide Celebration.
