The Black Hills State University Chamber Singers will be sharing their musical talents with audiences across Wyoming and western South Dakota during their spring concert tour which begins Wednesday, April 3 at the Sheridan College Music Department in Sheridan, Wyo.

The Chamber singers will perform a variety of styles from music of the Italian Renaissance to traditional American Folk Songs and Spirituals. The concerts will feature early music by Claudio Monteverdi, Josquin des Prez, and others; pieces by composers in the Midwest; and several contemporary settings of American music.

The BHSU Chamber Singers is a select ensemble of 20 student singers. They specialize in a cappella literature that was written for smaller groups. The Chamber Singers perform A Madrigal Dinner each fall in Renaissance garb, singing madrigals, motets, and carols. Each spring, the singers perform a more varied repertoire ranging from Renaissance madrigals to romantic part-songs to settings of popular songs.

The BHSU Chamber Singers are directed by Dr. Jonathan Nero, associate professor of music. Nero has been serving as the BHSU director of choral activities since 2007.
