The Stewart Bellman Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Writing at Black Hills State University is accepting submissions for academic essays, papers, and reports from all disciplines.
The Bellman Awards recognize the best writing produced in BHSU courses during the last year. All academic essays, papers, and reports written for a BHSU course between March 2, 2012, and March 1, 2013, are eligible. There will be no creative writing category this year. Submissions will be accepted online at www.BHSU.edu/BellmanAwards until 12 noon March 1. Several cash awards will be presented in three categories: Composition I and II, Literature, and General Academic Writing.
The Stewart Bellman Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Writing are held to honor the memory of Dr. Stewart Bellman, who had a 30-year career at BHSU. From 1966 to 1996, he was a champion of both students and faculty and worked tirelessly for the advancement of both. He founded the Dakota Writing Project and served as faculty advisor to the “Green Bowl Review.” In 1995 the Faculty Senate awarded him with the BHSU Distinguished Faculty Award. Bellman and his wife, Dr. Wanda Bellman, retired in the mid-90s and the couple maintained their devotion to BHSU.
