Black Hills State University theatre will present the South Dakota premier of the play, Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Carol Thursday, Nov. 29 through Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Woodburn Theatre on the BHSU campus.
The play, written by John Longenbaugh, takes place on Christmas Eve in 1894 when Sherlock Holmes resurfaces after being presumed dead for three years. Three unexpected callers begin to uncovering clues from the detective’s past, present and future in an attempt to save Holmes and his world from a dire end.
Longenbaugh received the idea for Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Carol out of a desire to see a holiday production that offers all the joys of classic stories such as Dickens’ oft-produced A Christmas Carol, but with a few surprises.
“I believe this is going to be a very popular and fun holiday production and will be a great family event,” said Bert Juhrend, BHSU theatre director. “We also have some new cast members this year that we are really excited about.”
Ticket prices are $8 for general admission, $6 for non-BHSU students and seniors, and free for BHSU faculty, staff, and students. For more information, email Bert.Juhrend@BHSU.edu or call 605.642.6268.
