Dr. Kay Schallenkamp, BHSU president (left), receives a $2,000 check from Kent Campbell, Spearfish Chamber of Commerce director (second from left). Also pictured are Dr. Lois Flagstad, BHSU vice president of Student Life who is serving as president of the Spearfish Chamber of Commerce, and Steve Meeker, BHSU vice president of University Advancement.
Schallenkamp noted that the donation is an investment in BHSU students that provides a benefit not only for the students, but also for the entire community. Recent economic impact studies indicate that each BHSU student contributes more than $10,000 to the local economy every year.
“We sincerely appreciate the Spearfish Chamber of Commerce investment in higher education. These scholarship funds were awarded to students who may not have otherwise been able to attend classes this fall,” Schallenkamp says.
Scholarship recipients include: Caroline Stadnick, Spanish major from Kyle, and Shanai Durfey, physical education major from Riverton, Wyo.
