BHSU to open new Vets Center

Black Hills State University will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Vets Center Monday, Aug. 27 at 9:30 a.m. in the lower level of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union.

BHSU designed the Vets Center in conjunction with its veteran students, educational officials from various branches of the military, and industry standards to provide a relaxing atmosphere to study and socialize. It will serve students who are veterans, those currently serving in the military, and their dependents. This center will also provide support services, program information, and a location for these students to network and create opportunities for peer support and mentoring, including the biweekly meetings of the Vets Club.

Although the Vets Center will be a self-service study and lounge area, there will be 10-15 hours per week of tutoring and services offered. There will be collaboration between the center and other groups on campus, such as the Student Success Center, as well as off-campus groups, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs. Tutoring, workshops, presentations, social events, and other opportunities will be provided through this collaboration.

Everyone is encouraged to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The hours of the Vets Center will coincide with the hours of the Student Union: Monday – Thursday 7 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday 7 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; and closed on Sunday.
