The Black Hills Singers will host a series of concerts in the region next week. They will perform a variety of styles from German Baroque songs to traditional African American spirituals and contemporary settings of European folk songs. The concerts will feature choral music by Johann Michael Bach, Josef Rheinberger, Gerald Finzi, and several contemporary arrangers of folk songs and spirituals.
Performances will be held:
- Monday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid City
- Tuesday, May 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Meier Recital Hall on the Black Hills State University campus in Spearfish
- Wednesday, May 23 at 7 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche
- Thursday, May 24 at 7 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Lead
The Black Hills Singers is an ensemble of six Black Hills area singers including: April Galea, Belle Fourche; Amanda Kidder, Belle Fourche; Andrea Elwess, Rapid City; Dean Peterson, Lead; Jonathan Nero, Spearfish; and Steve Parker, Spearfish. The ensemble was founded by Nero, assistant professor of music at BHSU. This is the first series of full concerts sung by the ensemble.
