Two-year old Urijah Johnson of Sturgis, who has cerebral palsy, had a brighter holiday season, thanks to Black Hills State University Bookstore.  Johnson was among many children who benefitted from the Share-A-Bear program at BHSU.

Nearly 50 bears were donated to the Children’s Care Foundation through the Second Annual Share-A-Bear program, hosted by the BHSU bookstore during the holiday shopping season.  Shoppers who spent $75 or more at the bookstore were given a free holiday bear that they could either keep or donate.

The bears were distributed during physical therapy sessions by the Children’s Care Foundation.  Amber Fessler, head coordinator at the Foundation, noted the program was a great success and the therapists loved being able to give the bears out to children.

Pam McKie, assistant director of the University Bookstore, said, “This is a great way to bring awareness to people in need to the BHSU campus, and provides an outlet to help give back to the community.”

According to McKie, plans are underway for the Third Annual Share-A-Bear program and they are hoping to donate even more bears to children in need.  For more information about the program contact McKie at Pam.McKie@BHSU.edu or call 605-642-6280.
