BHSU student receives International Gold & Silver Plate Society internship stipend

 Milliren

Heather Milliren, Black Hills State University senior business administration student specializing in tourism and hospitality from Hettinger, N.D., received a $1,000 stipend from the International Gold & Silver Plate Society to defray the cost of her 2011 summer internship as an event coordinator at the Surbeck Center in Rapid City.

“Heather is a most deserving, hardworking student with a good attitude and work ethic,” noted Stephanie Lindsley, Milliren’s supervisor at the Surbeck Center.  “She will be a fantastic asset to any company.”

Milliren was nominated for the internship stipend award by the BHSU Center for Business, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism (CBET).  According to Barb Zwetzig, director of CBET, “We were very proud to have been able to nominate Heather for this award.”

For more than 55 years, the International Foodservice Manufacturers Association (IFMA) has sponsored the Gold & Silver Plate Awards program. The Society recognizes outstanding hospitality students at selected universities. Criteria for the internship stipend include a consistently high level of academic achievement, financial need, a strong commitment to a career in the hospitality industries, and the student should possess the qualities of leadership and maturity that suggest future success.
