BHSU student organizations recognized by SD BOR

The Black Hills State University Political Science Association was recently honored with the BHSU Award for Academic Excellence by the South Dakota Board of Regents. The Black Hills State University Buzz Marketing student organization was recently honored with the BHSU Award for Organizational Leadership by the South Dakota Board of Regents. BOR president; Leah Bothamley, Buzz Marketing president and business administration major from Spearfish; Dr. Kay Schallenkamp, BHSU president; Dr. Hee-Kwon Jung, Buzz Marketing advisor and assistant professor of marketing; Brittney Seitz, Student Senate president and speech communication major from Black Hawk; and Dr. Jane Klug, director of Student Services.

Student organizations from Black Hills State University were recognized for their outstanding academic, community, and organizational work by the South Dakota Board of Regents.
BHSU organizations honored include:

  • Political Science Association: Award for Academic Excellence
    The purpose of the Political Science Association is to promote student involvement in the political application of current political ideologies and events. In the last year Coffee and Politics events have been held monthly which focus on different topics of political or social interest, such as gay marriage, medical marijuana, the Ground Zero-Islamic Cultural Center, and North America Unification. The Ground Zero-Islamic Cultural Center Coffee and Politics was presented as part of the Constitution Day celebration in September.
  • Sociology and Human Services Club: Award for Community Service
    The purpose of the Sociology and Human Services Club is to educate students about social responsibilities and offer professional development opportunities for students interested in sociology and human services. The members of the organization are currently working with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program called Campus Kids. This program provides mentoring relationships for community children with college-aged individuals.
  • Buzz Marketing: Award for Organizational Leadership
    The purpose of Buzz Marketing is to provide professional marketing and advertising assistance to campus organizations as well as to the greater community. Buzz Marketing focuses on bridging relationships and networking capabilities. This is done by being involved with other student organizations, campus administration, campus events, and businesses within the local community.
