BHSU students present at international conference

Five Black Hills State University students presented virtually at the Ninth Biannual International Collaborative Research (ICR) Symposium.

This semester three manuscript proposals were submitted by five BHSU undergraduate students and were accepted for presentation at the Symposium. Students who presented include:

  • Lauren Lund, psychology and sociology major from Hot Springs, who presented "Athletic Experiences of Special Olympics Athletes." Her faculty advisor is Dr. Emilia Boeschen, assistant professor of psychology.
  • Autumn Sanderson, psychology and sociology major from Conde, and Taylor Degen, psychology major from Alexandria, who presented "Assessing the Effectiveness of an After-School Program on Student Academic Success in Grades 4-8." Their faculty advisor is Dr. Aris Karagiorgakis, assistant professor of psychology.
  • Jordyn Heiting, psychology major from Hay Springs, Neb., and Matthias Dosch, psychology and sociology major from Pierre, who presented "Assessing the Benefits of Therapeutic Play on Behavioral Problems among Children in a Grade 4-8 After-School Program." Their faculty advisor is Karagiorgakis.

The worldwide inauguration of this symposium was held during the fall semester of 2007. Symposia are held simultaneously in real time, broadcast live from each campus. Representatives at university campuses in Lithuania, Thailand, Korea and the United States, currently serve on the ICR Symposium Presentation Committee and have the responsibility to accept and recommend manuscript proposals for consideration and subsequent approval for presentation during either the fall or spring symposium. Students and faculty who have conducted exemplary research in the area of psychology and sociology are encouraged to submit manuscripts for presentation.

Dr. James, Fleming, director of the Counseling Center and International Studies, coordinated BHSU’s participation in the conference.
