The Association of College Unions International (ACUI) presented a Facility Design Award of Excellence last month to BHSU and MHTN Architects, Inc. during the annual ACUI conference in Chicago.

Williams and Associates, who could not attend the ACUI conference, worked with MHTN Architects, based out of Salt Lake City, Utah, to design the building addition/renovation ensuring the needs of the campus community were met and that the new building would be designed to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver certification.

Babbitt worked to capture a variety of images of the Student Union at all hours of the day to include in their portfolio of the remodel project. The images were also used for the application process for the ACUI design award. Babbitt donated half of his payment from MHTN Architects back to BHSU. The proceeds went to Shutterbuzz, the BHSU student photography club, and to the Photography Department.

The ACUI Facility Design Award of Excellence recognizes excellence in design of college unions as well as other student-centered campus buildings. Entries were judged not only on the basis of the facilities’ appearance, but also on the process used to arrive at the design and how the new or renovated facility affected the campus.
