The Black Hills State University music department presents two spring choral concerts this week. The Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will perform Sunday, April 10 at 2:30 p.m. and the Women’s Chorus and Community Chorale will perform Tuesday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. Both performances will be held in the Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall.
The Concert Choir will perform a variety of literature including two arrangements of Appalachian folk songs; two Russian works, a Rachmaninoff liturgical work and folk song arrangement, and a set of spirituals.
The Chamber Singers will perform several songs by Edward Elgar, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Jean Berger; works by early American composer, William Billings; as well as some pop and jazz arrangements.
The Community Chorale will perform works by Schubert, Elgar, and Emma Lou Diemer. The newly-formed Women’s Chorus will also perform as part of the Tuesday evening concert. They will be performing works by Pablo Casals, Felix Mendelssohn, Eleanor Daley, and Arnas Melnäs.
Dr. Jonathan Nero, BHSU assistant professor of music, directs the BHSU Choirs and the Chamber Singers.
