A seminar for entrepreneurs who want to use Facebook and Twitter more effectively for business will be held at Black Hills State University Feb. 1 and Feb. 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Jonas Hall room 205. The seminar, “Social Media Basics: Facebook and Twitter”, is a two-part session sponsored by the South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO). Computers will be provided.
Registration, which includes two sessions, can be made online at www.BHSU.edu/SDCEO or by phone at (605) 642-6435. Registration will be $20 with a Jan. 31 deadline.
The first session will be held Tuesday, Feb. 1 and will focus on the development of a Facebook and Twitter account. LaNaya Elliott, Director of Internet Development for the BHSU Marketing and Communications department, will explain how to create a personal account and set up a business page. Choosing the right name for a business page, using TweetDeck, and privacy settings will also be discussed. This session is for social media beginners.
The second session will be held Feb. 8 and will explore social communication in the business community and using Facebook and Twitter as marketing tools. Dr. Barbara Looney, assistant professor in the College of Business and Technology at BHSU, will discuss the importance of positive language and strong verbs to get the proper message out and how to create a “you” focus. Other topics will include: how to post and share content, how to make an event on Facebook and how to create an ad.
The SD CEO is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Association (SBA) and provides business assistance and training to current and prospective entrepreneurs from start-up to expansion in order to foster economic development in South Dakota. While services are available to all those interested in entrepreneurship, there is a special emphasis on women, women veterans, Native Americans, the socially and/or economically disadvantaged, and youth entrepreneurs
