South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity to present “Women, Money and the Law”

Campbell

The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) at Black Hills State University will host a seminar titled, “Women, Money and the Law” Jan. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Jacket Legacy Room of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union.

Guest speaker, Erica Kroetch Campbell, J.D., will discuss a variety of legal and financial issues affecting women. Originally from the Black Hills, Campbell earned her Juris Doctor degree from the William and Mary School of Law in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she received the prestigious Dean's Certificate upon graduation. She is an executive committee member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Section of the South Dakota Bar Association and of the West River Estate and Financial Planning Council. Campbell worked as a Financial Advisor for Piper Jaffray & Co. (now UBS Financial), where she earned the Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS) designation from the College of Financial Planning.

The goal of the seminar, “Women, Money and the Law” is to help educate women on life planning and estate planning, giving guidance on how to maintain control over their personal, health care and financial decisions during their lifetimes, as well as providing for loved ones - while preserving family harmony - upon death.

Other topics include: how to stay in control; how to avoid unnecessary expenses and administrative bureaucracy; how choice of documents and titling of assets can protect families in such issues as: the care of minor children, elderly parents, remarriage, charitable desires, and protecting inheritance for and from heirs. Campbell will also discuss how a qualified financial advisor can work to help secure women’s confidence in their abilities to manage their finances and their futures.

Registration for the seminar can be made online at www.BHSU.edu/SDCEO or by calling Melissa Ehnes at (605) 642-6435 or by emailing Melissa.Ehnes@BHSU.edu. The registration deadline is Jan. 17. A $20 fee includes lunch.

The SD CEO is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The event is sponsored by Dakota Rising.
