BHSU student wins Miss Rodeo America title

Miss Rodeo America McKenzie Haley

Black Hills State University student McKenzie Haley was recently crowned Miss Rodeo America during the Wrangler National Finals in Las Vegas, Nev.

Haley, who is an education major from Winner, competed against 27 others vying the title of Miss Rodeo America. Along with the Miss Rodeo America title she earned top honors in the appearance, personality, photogenic and speech categories.
Haley, who was serving as Miss South Dakota Rodeo, will spend the next year traveling to nearly 100 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) sanctioned events around the country educating the public and creating awareness about the sport.

As Miss Rodeo America she will receive a $20,000 educational scholarship at the completion of her reign. Haley was also awarded a new wardrobe from Wrangler, a fur coat, a saddle, boots, hats, jewelry and other prizes.

Glen Lammers, BHSU rodeo coach, noted that McKenzie has been a very instrumental in promoting the BHSU rodeo team in recent years. It is an honor to have a BHSU student promoting the sport of rodeo on a national level.
