Black Hills State University student Jessica Juhrend, senior speech communication major from Spearfish, was one of seven entrants selected for the Second Annual Midway Festival of 10-Minute Plays.
Juhrend’s play entitled, “It’s Impossible to Get Fired from Thrifty Drug Aid,” which was described by Director Evan Bergman as a quirky piece with uncomfortable humor, is about a disturbed cashier whose behavior infuriates one customer before saving the life of another.
The festival, which features a series of 10-minute productions, received 150 submissions from 36 states. Submissions were judged by a panel of five members, each read 30 plays and named their top four scripts. Readings of the top 20 plays were then held with local actors to narrow the list to the final seven plays. The Midway Festival was held in the Thoroughbred Community Theater in Midway, Ky.
