Dr. Kristi Pearce has been named interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Black Hills State University. Pearce, a longtime faculty member and administrator at the University, has served as associate vice president for Academic Affairs since 2007.

BHSU President Kay Schallenkamp announced Pearce’s appointment as interim provost this week. She notes that Pearce has an excellent combination of experience, leadership and knowledge to lead the University through the initiatives underway in Academic Affairs.

“Dr. Pearce’s extensive knowledge, her longtime association with BHSU, and her active involvement with Academic Affairs through her role as associate provost over the last three years will ensure the University initiatives continue to move forward,” Schallenkamp says. “I am confident that Dr. Pearce’s leadership will enhance the dynamic innovative learning environment for our students and advance our goals at the university, state, and national level.”

Pearce joined the BHSU faculty in 1992. She holds a master’s degree in counseling and a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of South Dakota. Pearce has held numerous leadership roles at BHSU including coordinator of the graduate programs and dean of enrollment services. As a faculty member she served as president of the faculty senate and was active on many university committees and boards. She is also a member of many professional and academic associations. Previously, Pearce served as director of the Bush Grant for faculty development at BHSU.

Pearce will serve as interim provost while BHSU conducts a search to fill the position permanently.
