BHSU to host lecture on teaching math in Tanzania

Black Hills State University will host a community Lecture and Lunch Thursday, Nov. 18 at 11:30 a.m. in the Jacket Legacy Room in the Student Union. Dr. John Alsup, education professor of education, will speak on “Teaching Math in Rural Tanzania.”

In July and August 2007, Dr. Alsup, who teaches mathematics courses for prospective teachers at BHSU, volunteered to teach mathematics in Pommern, Tanzania, in a program sponsored by Global Volunteers. In this talk he will share his experiences teaching mathematics in Tanzania and highlight the progress Global Volunteers has made in the village of Pommern. Global Volunteers is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to support short-term volunteer projects throughout the world
