The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) and Black Hills State University will be welcoming Jane Hight-McMurry, a business communication expert, as their keynote speaker during the 2010 Women in Business Conference “From High Heels to High Places”, Oct. 23.
McMurry will share her tips on going from Plane Jane to Corporate Skirt during the presentation “Navigating the Lipstick Jungle” and offer her unique approach to time management skills in the afternoon presentation "Save time in a bottle...make wishes come true."
McMurry's education in her area of expertise began while a student at Oxford University in England where she became interested in learning communication skills that maximize relationships to increase business. McMurry is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, from which she received a master’s degree in communication studies. She taught communication studies and English at UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC-Wilmington. McMurry also developed and implemented the first English as a second language program in the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina. She is a professional member of the National Speakers Association, American Society of Training and Development, and a certified protocol specialist with membership in the Council of Protocol Executives based in New York City.
Along the way, McMurry's professional career has exposed her to a variety of business environments in major and smaller U.S. cities and the international world of Asia. Her work environments have ranged from formal financial management offices and healthcare environments to advertising agencies. She has had practical experience and professional interaction with executives at every level of business. Some of her clients, colleagues, and senior managers were extremely poised and polished, but she says she's witnessed plenty of blunders and bad examples as well.
McMurry's effective communication programs are filled with practical knowledge and advice. She presents customized training programs supported by original materials and guaranteed to meet the specific needs of each client. These are not pre-purchased fill-in-the-blank manuals and stock slide shows typical of trainers from weekend certification programs. Her programs are tailored to fit the audience and use relevant examples and information specific to the client. Jane speaks at conventions, business locations, colleges and universities.
McMurry is the author of The Etiquette Advantage, The Dance Steps of Life, and co-author of Success is a Team Effort and Etiquette for the Christ School Gentleman.
