BHSU Rodeo Team competes in Wisconsin

The Black Hills State University women’s rodeo team gained the lead in the Great Plains Region team standings at the Falcon Stampede held in River Falls, Wis.

According to the BHSU rodeo coach Glen Lammers, “The Falcon Stampede was the first competition of the season and it is great to have this momentum early on in the season. It adds to the women’s confidence and brings positive energy to our team. The women really pulled together to start the season right and now we need to keep working hard and stay focused to maintain our lead in the standings.”
The women’s team placed third with 355 points in the first go around at the Falcon Stampede and placed first in the second go around with 335 points in the team standings.

The men's rodeo team placed second with 530 points in the first go around and fourth with 265 points in the second. They are currently ranked fourth in the Great Plains Region. Lammers said "in order to move up in standings our men’s team needs to work on consistency and capitalizing on opportunities to gain points in more than one event. The men’s team has a lot of talent, their strength as a team is having multi event cowboys".

The Yellow Jackets top individual placings in the first go around include: Tom Hunt, Faith, first in the tie-down roping, Taylor Williams, Volburg, Mont., first in the team roping, Joey Painter, Buffalo, first in the barrel racing, Jamie Britton, Buffalo, first in the goat tying and Lexi Smith, Flandreau, third in the breakaway roping.

The second go around Jordyn Johnson, Sturgis, won the breakaway roping and Painter won the goat tying. Painter also took fourth place in the breakaway and won the all around cowgirl title. Also in the second rodeo Britton placed second in the goat tying and PJ Painter, Buffalo, and Hunt placed first in the short go and second in the average in the team roping.
