New graduate program launching at BHSU

Black Hills State University is launching a new Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) program in Rapid City this fall. The College of Business and Technology will deliver the face-to-face MBA program to build on the thriving business program at BHSU and capitalize on the University’s strategic partnerships with area business persons, who will share their expertise as guest speakers and mentors.

“The MBA in Applied Management is designed to provide a personalized educational experience that meets the unique needs of the business community in western South Dakota. Graduates will possess a strong business foundation, practical administrative skills, and responsive management insights to meet today’s challenges as well as the foresight required to anticipate obstacles and opportunities in the future of economic development,” according to Dr. Priscilla Romkema, dean of the College of Business and Technology.

The degree, which will target mid- to upper-level business professionals, will focus on the best practices in law, accounting, human resource management, small business management/entrepreneurship, international business, finance, marketing, information technology, and related disciplines. The fall 2010 courses are Applied Management as well as Law and Ethics, taught by Dr. Adam Bailey and Dr. Ken Schallenkamp, respectively.

To officially launch the MBA program, the first MBA cohort will gather on Tuesday, Aug. 24, for an MBA Orientation and Kick-Off on the BHSU main campus in Spearfish. Wells Fargo will serve as the business sponsor for this event that will be attended by MBA students, graduate faculty, BHSU administrators, and special guests.

According to John Senden, Spearfish Wells Fargo President, “Black Hills State University has been doing a great job of providing a quality education throughout its long history. The new MBA program will enhance the educational opportunities for current students and currently employed people in western South Dakota. Wells Fargo is proud to support the kick-off of this new program.”
