Operatic arias to be performed at BHSU

Pianist Charis Dimaris

Talented singers from across the United States and Canada will sing a variety of operatic arias Saturday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall on the Black Hills State University campus as part of the Johanna Meier Opera Theatre Institute.

Charis Dimaras, an internationally known Greek pianist, musical director, and accompanist from Ithaca College will coordinate the program and play piano. Elizabeth Hastings, nationally known accompanist and director at the Metropolitan Opera, will also accompany.

As part of the Johanna Meier Theatre Institute, students receive individualized coaching and participate in intensive stage direction and movement classes in preparation of these performances.

The Institute culminates with two different performances of scenes from major operas at 7:30 p.m. on June 25 in the Meier Recital Hall and June 26 in Woodburn Theatre on the BHSU campus.
